We are very pleased to report that we received a time-served sentence for our client on a Possession With Intent To Distribute cocaine charge in the United States District Court for the District of Maine, in Portland, Maine today. Our client face more than double what he actually served.
Our concern for a longer sentence relates to what we call "relevant conduct" (and which is sometimes called "ghost weight"). Relevant conduct is a complicated topic and can dramatically increase the sentence a defendant faces in Federal Court. We are exceptionally pleased that the Judge agreed with our argument, did not apply the relevant conduct, and gave our client a time-served disposition. Congratulations to our client and his family!
